Renovating our bedroom

Writing a post about renovating our bedroom makes me feel a little guilty. Guilty because there wasn’t actually anything ‘wrong’ with our bedroom – it had lots of expensive fitted wardrobes that were in great condition, but sleeping amongst all the cupboards and wardrobes made us both feel claustrophobic. Almost like we were sleeping in a storage unit, and we planned to rip the whole lot out from day one.

We sold the fitted wardrobes through ebay; under the condition that the buyer helped to dismantle and transport them. It took a whole day for Jared and the buyer to fully disassemble them. Once the wardrobes had been removed, we created a new opening to the boiler room (see here) for a walk in wardrobe, replastered, painted, fitted coving, skirting boards and a hanging rail, changed the doors, painted the window frame, had the electrics redone and fitted a new carpet.

Here are some images that I’ve been drawing inspiration from (all from Pinterest) – featuring lots of natural textures, white, green and grey. Anything to make me feel calm at the end of the day.

Our walk in wardrobe was made by a local cabinet maker, we have purchased a new bed, installed a blind and a few other items, but it is still very much at the ‘coming together’ stage. I don’t like rushing into buying anything and there is still lots of regular rearranging, because I can’t seem to make any decisions (!) We would like to buy some curtains, a dresser (we’ve already returned one), add a few plants and perhaps a small rug, but money is running out and there are more pressing things to spend our money on.

Oh wow, that sounds like such a big job but totally worth it if you weren’t happy with it as it was and it is looking utterly gorgeous.

This looks so lovely and peaceful Esther, I love all the little touches, and the archway to the walk in wardrobe looks fab! What a transformation! x

Thanks Amelia! It was so worth all of the hard work – just need to properly decide what finishing touches we want to go for to make it complete xx
