11 beauty products that I love

When it comes to beauty products – I like to buy one thing and not have to think about it ever again. The product that does everything it should, and doesn’t leave me feel wanting. I am no beauty junkie, that’s for sure. Other than wearing lipstick occasionally, I don’t experiment with my look and I’m quite happy with my routine. I didn’t suffer with spots as a teenager, but at around 21 I started having huge breakouts that would stay for weeks. Again at 30 I am having similar problems and it is really frustrating.

My skin is combination – I wouldn’t describe it as dry, greasy or sensitive, but I have had problems with all three at some point. My spots are always on my lower cheeks, my chin, jaw line and spread onto my neck, which I’ve heard is hormonal. My skin doesn’t seem to like anything heavy, and I try not to touch it too much.

Here are 11 products that I love and would find it hard to move on from, because they do everything that I want them to:

Simple Light Moisturiser – I have tried so many different moisturisers over the years, but always regret moving from this one. I’ve realised that I’m not missing out and that this is perfect for my skin. It never leaves it feeling greasy and absorbs into my skin really quickly. It’s super cheap which is a huge bonus.

Neal’s Yard Rose Formula Antioxidant Mask – Apparently this mask is perfect for once a week, but I only remember to use it about every two (or three). It is a hydrating mask and it really does a fantastic job. My skin feels like it has had such a treat.

Bare Minerals Performance Wear Powder Foundation – When my spots were really bad (before I had children) Jared and I used to go and try out a new make up stalls regularly. I wanted to find a foundation that wouldn’t make my spots worse, and Bare Minerals was the only answer. I’m pretty committed to Bare Minerals foundation, the coverage isn’t full and it’s lightweight, which is how I like it.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara Blackest Black – I have used this for as long as I can remember and I always come back to it. I recently lost mine and haven’t had the chance to buy a new one, so I’m using a back up. The waterproof version is fantastic too – it does not move at all.

Evening Primrose Age Revitalising Concentrate – I received a sample of this a few weeks ago from an event and I will definitely be buying a full size version. It’s about £35, but you only need a tiny bit, so I think it will last ages. I’ve been putting it on before my moisturiser and it smells so good too.

NARS X Charlotte Gainsbourg Multiple Tint Alice – This is very recent discovery and I cannot describe how much I love it. It is a tint for cheeks and lips, and I am thrilled. I’ve often felt that my blusher just sits on top of my skin but this rubs in and stays on all day. It’s dewy, but not greasy and gives a little glow.

YSL Touche Éclat – This is expensive, but it is so good. I use it for eye bags and to highlight under my eyebrows. It’s so easy to use and blends in so nicely.

Rimmel Professional Eyebrow Pencil – I’ve used this since university and I can’t find anything that I like better. It’s a desert island product for me, because I have very patchy eyebrows. I’ve tried powders and other fancy things, but this is my absolute favourite eyebrow product. I don’t like my eyebrows too look too ‘done’ or perfect. It’s available from Boots and Superdrug, and I use the black/brown colour.

MAC Liquidlast Liner – I have no idea how I discovered this liquid eyeliner but it is amazing. It does not budge even in water, and is easily removed with cleanser or a wipe. It’s exactly what I want it to be. Lots of MAC make up counters have stopped stocking it, so the last few times I’ve had to buy online. It lasts me about a year.

Pure tea tree oil – Nothing blasts a spot like tea tree oil, and I use it when spots are stubborn to move them on and draw out impurities. I probably use it a couple of times a month.

Body Shop Hemp Cream – People have tried to persuade me so many times that there are better hand creams out there, but it is not true. I don’t have eczema, but I do suffer with dry hands and lips, and this is the best out there. The smell could be better, but that’s a very small criticism. It never leaves my skin wanting, and leaves my skin soft, not greasy.

I am yet to find the perfect cleanser – I always find them too foamy and the perfect lipstick – I always find them too drying. So if you have any recommendations, you must let me know.

I really struggle with lipstick too, it never seems to look right on me. The best one I’ve had lately is the Kate Moss Nude ones by Rimmel – they have more colour in them than normal nudes. I keep meaning to try Bare Minerals foundation as I’ve heard such good things about them! You’re skin and make up always looks great so you much be doing something right Hot Cloth polish cleaners are really good for not drying your sking out, I use Liz Earle when I can afford it or Boots No7 is a great cheaper alternativ xx

Thanks so much for your tips Hayley. I will definitely try out the Kate Moss ones. I don’t have a nude lipstick, but have always fancied trying one. I’ve heard Liz Earle is good, and you are so wise with your hot cloth. Such a good tip – thank you, and thank you for your kind words. My skin is having such troubles but hopefully by the time I’m 40 I won’t still be having breakouts! x
