Bread, grissini, stollen and chutney – gifts for giving

Monday to Friday this week I am going to sharing some little ideas for giving gifts to neighbours, teachers, family and friends. Foodie ones, because I love food, making in batches is made easy…and it is Christmas. Today I am celebrating all things bready – grissini, bread and stollen, all of which were new for me.

I think cheese (over Christmas there must be cheese), infused oil, pesto or homemade passata would be the perfect accompaniment to bread or grissini. My chutney making was a bit of a disaster last year, so I wanted to have another go. Mine was tomato with a hint of chilli and thankfully it thickened up properly and I was really pleased.

I found grissini really satisfying to make. I know they are so easy to pick up from the shop, but making them means you can get inventive with flavours. I went for black pepper, cumin and parmesan. Mine could have done with a few minutes less in the oven to be honest – I’m always so distracted.

The bread I made was a bit of a cheat. Supermarkets do some great bread mixes and it means that success is guaranteed. Mixed grain and sun-dried tomatoes with basil are two I love. I decided to plait mine in a circle and then wrap in greaseproof paper ready for giving.

My stollen is going to need a few more attempts before it is anywhere near ready for giving…but the idea was there, and it would make such a thoughtful gift.

Happy giving!
