The weather seems to have turned this week. I have been wearing jumpers every day, without feeling too hot or sweaty (attractive I know), and I must say I have been enjoying a wardrobe change. Cold weather calls for cosy food, and I have been enjoying this change too. Lots of eating soup, root veggies and mash.
Here is what else I’ve been up to:
- Mushroom soup – I love mushrooms (anyone else?) and had a massive urge to make some soup for lunch this week, so I enjoyed that for a couple of days. Nothing fancy, just mushrooms, onion, garlic, thyme, stock and cashew nut cream. It was everything I hoped it would be – can you tell I dream (and day dream) about food? It was super quick too.
- Cosy places to stay – Jared and I have developed an itch to go away, and have managed to book somewhere for the beginning of December. I have been thinking back to when we stayed at North Star Club last December. It was so relaxing! Other Yorkshire places I like the sound of are The Bivouac, Humble Bee Farm, Shepherd’s Delight and Camp Katur.
- Root vegetable pie – I made a loose version of this, which is exactly what I fancy this time of year, and perfect for clearing out the fridge.
- Little Passports – We have been reviewing a Little Passports subscription over the past few months. You can read more about it here.
- What’s the point of caring about the planet? – My dad turned vegan about a year before he passed away, and was a vegetarian for many years before that. (Although, I must add that a couple of times a year he would sit down and thoroughly enjoy a rack of ribs!) He turned vegan for health and ecological reasons, and I loved how passionately he felt about these two issues. I don’t eat a lot of meat, and I really loved reading Jess’s journey to veganism and caring more about the planet. I’m miles away from where she is, but it’s something to think about. Jess is also someone I’ve met and is really lovely.
- Cooking and kids – I loved reading this too. Emilie writes that she wanted her 8 and 10 year old to be able to cook a simple three course meal without a recipe book. I think it is such a lovely idea, and I love the thought process behind it.
- Eucalyptus – I have rediscovered a love for eucalyptus this week. I’ve been to the florist twice to get some. It smells so subtly divine, and is perfect to ward of unwanted germs about the house.
