After gearing up for Win starting school this week; it turned out to be of a non-event. He didn’t have his first full day until Thursday, and hasn’t been the slightest bit bothered about attending (which of course I’m relieved about). I was planning a low key week with Ru (& O) but everything has still been very focused on Win. He has loved cycling to school every day, and loves wearing his uniform. I hope the novelty doesn’t wear off too soon!
Here is what else we’ve been up to:
- Blackberry painting – Win really had a good times creating some art using blackberries, leaves and mud. He insisted it was a ‘blackberries tree’, not a blackberry bush. The Forestry Commission has sent us some fantastic ideas for autumn art, and this was one of them – check out their website for more. Did you know that experts are predicting a truly sensational colour display this autumn? I can’t wait!
- Mud painting – Following on from blackberry painting the boys spent a wonderful afternoon in the garden mud painting on canvases and a paper roll. It was such a hot day.
- Jasmine Thompson – This week I have been loving Jasmine Thompson’s acoustic covers. He voice is enchanting, and I’ve been totally obsessed whilst cooking dinner.
- The patio and fence in our garden are finished. I am so excited – it is now a usable area. Here are some images inspiring me:
Just in case you missed the promotional video we were able to be part of for our photographer friend – here it is (make sure you turn up the sound as the song is wonderful):
Enjoy your weekend!

Your patio area Esther! 😍😍😍 oh my! It’s stunning! And I LOVE the blackberry painting! I am so going to do that with the children this Autumn! Had never heard of Jasmine Thomas before, but a little listen suggests she’s right up my street. Such an inspiring post, Esther!
…I wish it was mine! It was so much fun painting with nature. He was getting so excited about it. Oh – she is SO good!!!!! Thanks Claire xx
Oh I love your blackberry art! We pick some every year but I’ve never made anything more creative than a crumble 😉 I’m glad school is going so well, it’s a relief when they just take it in their stride isn’t it?

Crumble is the best though. So tasty! Absolutely. I hope your little one is getting along just fine xx
Love the blackberry art, what a fab idea. Might give that one a whirl with the boys. I just love that video from your photographer, it is really very special xx
Thank you so much Hayley! xx
Those patio photos 😍 We love having a garden, it’s not huge but just to have our own personal outside space is fortunate. That painting is such a good idea! X
I know! Seriously stunning. One day hey? Absolutely. Any outdoor space is just wonderful xx
