A family photo shoot

Y’know…I um’d and ah’d for so long about booking a family photoshoot, due to (what I now know are) ridiculous reasons. What if we didn’t get the photos we wanted? What if it was awkward? What if I looked horrendous? What would we wear? What if all the pictures looked unnatural? Isn’t it a waste of money as children grow so fast? What is the photographer found our kids annoying? What if the kids didn’t behave? I could go on, but I’ll spare you.

A lot has happened since then. We booked a date, we ironed our clothes (shocker I know), we hopped in the car, the rain held off and the wind was present, but kind. The photographer is a family friend and a fellow mum of three boys, it wasn’t awkward in the slightest, she actually really likes kids, she tells you where to stand, she tells you where to look, she tells you what looks good (and what doesn’t), she tells you when your hair is in your face and when you need to pull your skirt down, she tries to make the children laugh and knows that a baby will get grizzly. All, so she can snap the perfect photographs, that you will love and treasure forever.

I don’t say any of this lightly, because I am so over the moon with our photographs. Helen from Helen Rose Photography managed to capture my absolute favourite expressions in each of our children. Expressions that I love, and know I will miss, and maybe even forget in years to come. She encouraged us to have some couple photos too, which I wasn’t keen on, but now, I am so glad we did. I know it will be so precious in years to come remembering this stage of our lives, in such a special way.

Helen is also on Instagram, and if you pop over you can watch a short video featuring yours truly, Jared and our little gang. Helen also does maternity, newborn, wedding, baby and child fashion photography. So grab who you need, dress up, get some sweets to bribe your kids with, and let Helen (and nature) make you look good!

So now, I’ll be quiet, and let (some of) the photos do the talking.

Oh these are totally beautiful. I can see why you’re thrilled. Before we had our first family photo shoot together I was really anxious too, plus I take a lot of photos of us together on a timer and my husband thought it was a bit of a waste of money. But then we got the photos back and I knew it was worth every penny and I was totally in love with every shot.
I love how these are so natural and happy and unforced. And I love all your outfits too (especially your dress and head jewellery) it all just looks so classic and timeless. Just beautiful! x

Thank you so much Lucy! and I am so so glad that we went for it! Even though the baby is still tiny too. The trickiest thing was finding clothes that wouldn’t age too quickly xx

Oh, what amazing photos! You all look fabulous and I totally see what you mean about the facial expressions, she has captured them perfectly. I am so glad you did it outside too, we did exactly the same and had a family photo shoot outside and the results are so much nicer than the staged photos you get indoors with a white background.
