The side of my bed is the only area of our house that I can be quite precious about. To me it resembles a shrine, dedicated to no one – but myself. How selfish of me. It’s where I go from rough to ready every day, and it’s where I keep my make up, my hair products, my Kindle, my jewels and my very basic collection of cosmetics. It’s my slice of calm amongst the chaos of raising three small people, and I look forward to getting myself ready for bed there each night. Before you get the wrong idea; ‘getting ready’ for bed doesn’t involve a whole lot – taking my contact lenses out, cleaning my teeth, baby wiping my face and slapping some moisturiser on (if I remember).
For years there has only been a lamp at Jared’s side of the bed and recently I’ve been flirting with the idea of getting one for my side, so I don’t have to climb over Jared if I ever need it in the night. A lamp that gives out soft light, but means I can see everything I need to. I found one that I liked, so I decided to do some rearranging to the side of my bed – add a lamp, add a couple of pictures and have a tidy up. Subtle, but refreshing. As you know, I’m not one of those people who likes things away in boxes – I like to see pretty things and enjoy them.
Here is the before:
…and here it is after a little update:
I’ve always had a love for war pictures and posters. The one I’ve added in a glass frame reads: “To dress extravagantly in war time is worse than bad form. It is unpatriotic”. I thought it was very appropriate for this area of our home. I just love it. I decided to clear my bedside table of teacups and pots, to keep it looking simple.
Whilst I’m on the topic of interiors, I’d love to share with you an interiors blog I’ve discovered called Four Walls. I love the posts on ‘She Sheds’ and Get to Know : Emma Harris. Emma writes ‘a quiet style’ and is someone I follow on Instagram, so it was lovely to find out more about her…and a ‘She Shed’ one day would just be a dream, dontcha think?
Where do you go for interior inspiration? I must say that Instagram is still my firm favourite.

I understand the need for a bedside light too well. Currently I have to wake my partner too. #HomeEtc
I must say I am loving it so far! x
That’s a very pretty lamp, it looks like it would cast a lovely shadow. I totally need to carve out a little spot for me in our tiny house!
Yes – I forgot to mention that it does cast lovely shadows on the wall xx
Hello Esther! I’m so glad we found each other after bumping into each other in queue at BMLs. I hope you enjoyed the experience as much as I did. Your blog is lovely. I love your photos too….Wow! I want that breakfast!!!! The lamp is lovely and I really have to have a bedside lamp as I don’t like the dark (lol) so I like to pop it on when I get up in the night to go to loo!! Until we turned our dining room into a study, My hubby used to say that all he had to call his own was his bedside drawer…Even the new shed was only his for a week before the guinea pigs moved into it…
Anyway, I am waffling. Lovely blog, lovely pictures and lovely family 🙂 #HOMEETC
Hahaha Jane! This made me laugh! Especially the guinea pigs. I am definitely a breakfast person. I can’t and won’t go without it. I really enjoyed Brit Mums thank you. I always enjoy the food there! xx
Ah you’re bedside looks very pretty! I like instagram for inspiration too, or Pinterest! xx
Thanks Alex xx
Ooh lovely lamp, totally in keeping with what was already there. I did the same thing a few years ago, I got sick of stubbing my toe when I got up in the night when my husband could just flick his lamp on to avoid stubbed toes!

Sounds like all the men have lamps and all the women don’t from all the comments! Haha. I would suggest that women probably need them more than men – let’s face it! xx
Looks lovely – I adore everything you have elected and all the colours. The wallpaper looks amazing. What a yummy breakfast!!! Thanks for linking – Jess xx

Thanks Jess x
Love the lamp, it fits right in with your other belongings – and I think it’s essential to have a space (however small) that you can do what you want with x #homeetc
Absolutely! I wouldn’t be without my little corner xx
