Beautiful bedrooms

Once the offer we put in for our house had been accepted; we decided that we would decorate the master bedroom first. We knew that one by one we would be overhauling every room, and we wanted a haven to return to at the end of each day. A place that was clean, cosy, quiet and welcoming – a home within a home, a little sanctuary. Free from dust, mess and upheaval…and we were certainly glad of it during the process of renovating.

We decorated our bedroom almost 6 years ago and my taste has changed a lot since then. We’re planning on moving in a couple of years time, so there is no way we will be doing any redecorating before then. Plus, we embarrassingly still have a few bits to finish (!) This is a little inspiration post of all things ‘bedroom’ I am loving at the moment, and they all seem to have a few things in common:

White – I really can’t get enough of white – there is something so fresh and exciting about it. Like a blank canvas waiting to be touched. I feel it gives more opportunity to get creative with all the little details. It’s also so peaceful and calming.

Wood – I prefer mine bare, painted white, or on the floor.

Plants – Green has been my favourite colour since I can remember. I think it’s because I find it completely serene and don’t plants add just that? Serenity, life (literally) and vibrancy. I love the look of tiny, small and huge leafy plants in places you don’t expect them – like they’ve just popped out to say ‘Hello!’

Linen – Preferably white bed linen (not sure how that one would work with kids?)…and I love it mixed with grey and blush pink. I have huge love for linen at the moment.

Lighting – We have a dimmer light in our bedroom and would always favour this over usual switches. The variety of lamps, shades and fixtures available over the last few years is so pleasing to me! I am loving the increase of metal, ceramic and wood been used.

Some beautiful rooms. I love a minimalist look with rustic furniture. Although you’d never guess it from the state of my house!

Lovely inspiration. I like all white in bedroom too, it definitely is calming. Though at a colour psychology event I went to last week Karen Haller spoke about white as being the colour of mental asylums for a reason 🙂 But I still think it’s nice to have somewhere so white and tranquil to relax at the end of the day. #HomeEtc

Couldn’t agree more! This is the feel I’m hoping to achieve for our bedroom. We’ve just had ours decorated (white blank canvas) and some neutral comfy carpet. I’ve also got my Dads 1960’s wooden unit and i’m just adding little elements of colour but in a calm way. yes to plants too! so relaxing. Love these images. Where are you moving?? x

Oooo that sounds amazing! Love the sound of the unit. We’ll move very close to where we are now – just one with more outdoor space I think xx

I love everything you’ve chosen, it’s so my style! I adore plain wood too, the chest of drawers in the first image are so lovely, they would make a great area for styling lots of pretty bits and bobs.

Love this type of style – I’m always drawn to neutrals and earthy colours. Do love the odd pop of colour though. I’m so with you on the lighting – my hubby thinks I’m obsessed with creating an ‘ambiance’! xx #HomeEtc

Amazing! But ambiance is SO important! xx

Aaah I love all these Esther. I’d be happy with any/all of them. Our bedlinen is white, grey and blush at the mo. A bit of a change for me as I’ve always had just white on our bed.

Having just seen that image with the inky dark wall, I have a hankering to paint our bedroom again. I thought I’d just quashed that desire but — no — still there!!! One of the days I’ll go ahead and do it 🙂 Thanks for linking up with us lovely xx #HomeEtc

Ours is cream, but I’m desperate to make the switch to white…it’s not something I can justify at the moment.

That dark wall is amazing. So hard to get right, but looks absolutely stunning. Good luck! xx
