DIY Two boys in capes

Win would not dress up as a shepherd in the church Christmas nativity last December for all the bribes in the world. We were so desperate to see him all dressed up, sat amongst the lambs looking sweet, that bribes of chocolate, sweets and cake were offered. He wouldn’t take any of them. He isn’t fond of dressing up and never has been. He’s more of an accessory guy – a sword, a shield, a hat, tools or a wand are fine, but strange clothing, no thank you.

I was so pleased when I heard him talking to Jared about superheroes and asked if he could have a cape. Jared said he was sure we could find one at a shop somewhere, and Win replied: “No, mummy will make me and Ru one”…and that was that. I asked him what colour he would like and then we sat together for a few minutes on Pinterest looking for ideas. He loved the look of these ones, so we went from there. My mum popped round on Friday night (with dinner) and fabric supplies (because she’s basically amazing) which turned out to be perfect for our little project.

I made them a little on the large side, in the hope that they will last a long time. They took just over two hours to make and they are not tricky at all.

After finishing them Winston wanted to go on a walk to see what ‘strong and helpful’ things he could do. It’s amazing how much better at walking superhero Winston is compared to just regular Winston. Amazing I tell you! Ru tries to copy just about everything Winston does, and I love watching him follow Win around and repeat the end sound of his sentences.IMAG3349IMAG3346

We popped out for about an hour, before returning to the mayhem we had created – so worth it though. I’m really pleased with them, and Win’s face was a look of utter joy as he put it on for the first time. Transformed.
