Winston isn’t particularly outdoorsy. Whilst he loves being outside, he’s not one of those children itching to get out of the door in the morning, and he doesn’t seem to have lots of extra energy that he needs to burn off. It’s unusual that we stay indoors for a whole day, but Winston is very happy if drawing, making things, painting and reading books are the only things on the agenda.
Both boys aren’t sleeping particularly well at the moment, which has come as a bit of a shock. Winston has always been brilliant and Ru was just getting there with consistently sleeping through. Thankfully they seem very settled during the day, which I am so relieved about – I’m not sure I could cope otherwise!
Winston asked to go out on his bike again and managed all the way to town and back. I couldn’t believe it! He was so happy hopping on and of his bike collecting ‘surprises’ (as he calls them) to add to his treasure box. I love how Winston reminds me of the everyday beauty that is all around us, and I love how he is so desperate to show me everything. Win and I have become good friends – I feel that we are understanding one another more each day.
There is a lovely walled garden in our local town centre and we often go after we’ve done our jobs. Winston insisted on buying a square baking tray from Home Bargains which he filled with ‘surprises’. I love afternoons like this, when we just potter around and have the chance to appreciate life’s simple pleasures.
Today’s ‘surprises’ included cracked conkers, lots of dandelions, pansies, bark, bb gun pellets, seeds, daisies and some foliage. They are now all stuffed into his treasure box. He is particularly thrilled with a stem of four dandelions that are fused together.
I couldn’t not include the below pictures – they are brilliant. Winston enters the buggy, so Ru starts hitting him with a stick, if that wasn’t enough he attempts to kick him several times. Rufus is not good at sharing – I’m sure most one year olds aren’t, but he has such strong emotions which often take me completely by surprise. Winston was much more laid back as a baby (unless it was nap time), but Ru has so much fight in him. Seriously going to have to watch this one!

Oh this is lovely and I adore these pictures (am particularly in love with his little outfit). H really isn’t invested in being on his bike at the moment so I look forward to some days like this in the future! Thanks for linking up lovely xx
Winston has only found love for his bike over the last two weeks…before that he would moan relentlessly. I’m not sure what has changed. Thanks for hosting! 🙂 xx
His little yellow coat and boots are just gorgeous! What a stylish dude and it looks like a great afternoon out. xx
Thanks Katie! Ru has a green one that used to be Winston’s that I’m rather excited for him to wear…if only he would walk! x
Oh my goodness, Winston is so cute! I love his outfit – so trendy! 🙂 Gorgeous photos Esther xx
Eeep thanks Emma! x
Absolutely brilliant! Win’s rain coat is my favourite. Ru is quite the little mister! I can only hope one day I am able to spend my days outside with little ones, creating memories and enjoying the ‘simple,’ yet most rewarding things in life. <3
I must admit I love him raincoat too! Slightly clashing with the yellow shorts but who’s looking? Parenthood certainly has it’s challenges and frustrations, but brings pure happiness, meaning and beauty! x
