I’ve been planning on making this planet mobile for a few weeks, and I finally got around to completing it the other day. I discovered a book in our local library called ‘The Homemade Home for Children: 50 Thrifty and Chic Projects for Creative Parents‘, took it home for a few weeks and then decided to buy it because it is so gorgeous.
The projects are very sweet and varied. I loved the planet mobile as soon as I saw it…along with many of the other projects. Winston has been asking us about the moon recently, so I wanted to make it before the moment passed.
All you need is an embroidery hoop, paints, polystyrene balls and fishing wire. It was fiddly at times, but overall it was simple and I’m really pleased with how it turned out. It took around two and a half hours – an hour in the afternoon (bad idea with the kids around), then I did the fiddly bit in the evening.
Researching all the sizes, colours and distances of the planets took me right back to my school days – it really is amazing what you forget. I’ve hung it over the cot and it looks perfect!
Wow you are so artistic! That mobile is amazing! x
Thank you, you are very kind! x
