Casually styling ‘MOM’ jeans

Skinny jeans gave me a mild heart attack when they re-emerged circa 2004, but now I can’t imagine wearing anything else. I distinctly remember going on a shopping trip with my cousin, specifically buy some, and the changing rooms were full of laughter as we looked at ourselves in skinny jeans.

I was hoping the ‘MOM’ jean would quietly go away, as apparently ladies with a larger bum and thighs (such as myself) should steer clear of them at all costs…but it looks like they are here to stay. They are straight out of the 90s – vintage wash, with a high waist and tapered leg. They certainly look comfier than skinny jeans, so I did what I usually do in these situations – bought some from eBay, that way I can sell them on if they turn out to look hideous.

When I first put them on I was instantly transported back a decade (or so) and I felt ridiculous. I swiftly removed them, and decided to do a bit of outfit research with the help of my best friend (Google) and my other stylish friend (Pinterest). I had a look through my wardrobe and put together some casual outfit combos that would make wearing MOM jeans palatable. They are far more versatile than they look, and I didn’t realise how easily they could be dressed up and with very basic pieces.

MOM jeans are comfortable, fun and I’ve decided that it doesn’t matter two hoots what your body shape is…or your age for that matter. There certainly are some gorgeous people out there wearing MOM jeans, so it would be a shame not to share some more images with you.

Do you love or hate the MOM jean? or have you been sporting them since the 90’s, and wondering what all the fuss is about? I know what I’ll be slipping on when I want to instantly feel 10 years younger!

Sorry, I won’t be getting high waisters again any time soon! I think it depends very much on your body shape and as I have a longer torso they cut me right in two – not a good look. They look fab on you though, lucky you!

Ah! Thank you. I have a long torso and short legs so I’m probably trying to make my legs look longer! x

I love these kind of jeans. They’re the only ones that really suit my figure (small waist, bigger hips/thighs) and just feel so much more relaxed and comfy than skinny jeans. I’m all about the comfort these days ha! xx
P.S. Thanks so much for adding me to your blogroll!
