W has a thing about play dough at the moment and little did I know how easy it is to make! I’ve bought shop bought ones in the past but the pots are tiny, and I’ve realised that (with Winston) there is no point having different colours; as it just ends up in one massive lump. His favourite thing to make are slugs…and lots of them.
This recipe makes a huge ball which I keep wrapped up in cling film, in the fridge. It feels just the same, two weeks later. This is the second recipe I tried, and it worked much better than the first.
Ingredients
2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 cup of warm water
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tablespoon of cream of tartar
Method
- Add all the other ingredients and stir like mad, then knead until it is lump free. You may need to add a little more water, or flour to get it exactly right.
- Do not forget to add the oil like I did – it makes all the difference.
- You can add food colouring or use vegetables to make natural dye – purple cabbage or kale work really well.
- You could also add some essential oils to make it smell nice too.
Have fun with your play dough!
