During the winter months I get terribly chapped lips and nothing seems to work. When driving I sit there unconsciously picking away at my lips and sometimes make them bleed. I’ve never found much relief from products like Vaseline, Blistex, Burt’s Bees, Carmex or even straight coconut oil that I love for a million reasons. Sometimes we need to take matters into our own hands!
This recipe is one I have tried out recently and works a treat. My lips are healing and are super soft once more. It doesn’t look like it is cheap to make but once you have bought everything you can literally make shed loads of the stuff. What a fabulous gift to give to your friends, plus it is so easy to make which is always a huge bonus!
Beeswax – £2.81 for 60g from Amazon
Coconut Oil – £6 for 1L from Amazon. You can use the rest for cooking. Scrumptious.
Shea Butter – £6 for 250g from Amazon
Olive Oil – I’m sure you all have this already
Vitamin E Oil – £2.49 for 25ml from eBay
Recipe
45g Olive Oil
15g Beeswax
15g Shea Butter
15g Coconut Oil
2.5ml Vitamin E Oil
You can add a few drops of any essential oil but I chose to keep mine plain.
Method
1. Gently melt the beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter and vitamin E oil in a glass bowl over a simmering pan of water. Make sure that the simmering water from the lower pan does not touch the top pan or boil dry.
2. Once everything has melted (the beeswax will be the last to melt) remove from the heat and add a couple of drops of essential oil (if using).
3. Leave the balm to cool for a few minutes and then pour into a clean container and leave to set.
Drench your lips as often as you need 🙂 Let me know if you have a go!
