I few years ago I ripped a page out of a magazine (which I will embarrassingly reveal was Glamour) all about yurts in the UK and mainland Europe. I’d heard of yurt villages before and had been very intrigued. ‘Suggesting’ to my husband started a while ago!…it all looked so peaceful, simple and cosy. Earlier this week we stayed for two nights in the Peewit Tipi at Wild Northumbria in Northumberland. It was such an enjoyable experience and we both loved waking up to the sound of a million birds – the rooster; not so much. I love nothing more than the three of us away together with no distractions and minimal technology. Our tipi had an open fire in the middle and was decorated with animal skins, Moroccan lanterns, bunting and Turkish rugs. I’ll admit that when we first got there we were shocked at how basic it was – I don’t think I read the description on the website particularly well, but it didn’t matter either way.

Points to note:
- Tipi’s are most suitable for couples with older children as it can get smoky and you won’t have to stop them from going near the fire pit (!) – not sure why this didn’t cross my mind.
- Yurt’s are best for families with young children and are a bit more luxurious.
- It is literally in the middle of no where so have a think about what you will do during the day, they do run some activities and workshops. There’s endless space to go walking though – we managed to spot a fox in daylight and the sheep are noisy!
- It is cold at night, so make sure you take warm clothing.
- The roosters wake up early and the chickens roam freely.
- There is a very basic communal kitchen with a microwave, kettle, fridge, freezer and washing machine.
Couples get 10% off and they also do events, workshops, hampers, bike hire and so much more. Most of the accommodation sleeps between 6-10 people, so price-wise it works out very reasonably.

This is such a good idea. I have also seen these about but not really looked into it. Must add to the bucket list… 🙂
