Recovering a dog cushion for a baby

They are two of the most useful things ever. ..particularly for the first 6 months of your baby’s life. Call me boring but I like to give people practical presents when a friend has a new baby, so here I am telling you about a dog cushion and a hat. I have no idea where the concept of using a dog cushion for a baby came from, but it is one I am thankful for.

Here is what you do:

  1. Buy a dog cushion.
  2. Recover it – two layers might be needed to disguise the bold prints.
  3. Put your baby on it to play or when you’re cooking, gardening, sewing, at church, at the park, exercising, in the shower etc…and you can use it as a feeding cushion and back rest.

But isn’t it just a pillow? yes I suppose so (!) but it’s larger, squidgy-er and easier to squash into small spaces.

1.
1. Buy a dog cushion
2.
2. Recover it (this hasn’t got the top layer on yet)
3.
3. Enjoy some hands free time

Now for the hat. My cousin taught me how to knit this sweet Maltese hat with ear flaps and a button. Useful mostly because it’s the only one I could get to stay on his head, and it’s super warm.

Voila! Enjoy your boring, but useful present. I have a brand new nephew today, so just in time. Hooray!

Kathryn! I will get it for you! The pattern is American and my Mum has ‘translated’ it so English knitters can understand. I will get it from her next time I see her! xx
